Meta Platforms has entered a major partnership with Arm Holdings to run its AI recommendation systems on Arm-based server chips. The shift marks a move away from traditional x86 processors toward technology that promises better energy efficiency and performance per watt.
Arm’s chip architecture is already dominant in mobile devices. Under the deal, Meta will adapt its AI infrastructure — including parts of PyTorch, executorch runtime, and custom AI libraries — to work seamlessly on Arm servers. The software changes will also be open-sourced to support broader adoption across the tech industry.
This hardware pivot is backed by a significant investment: Meta plans to build a new data center in Texas, committing $1.5 billion to support escalating AI workloads. The facility will join Meta’s global infrastructure network, now counting 29 data centers.
Meta expects this tighter alignment of hardware and software to deliver real benefits: faster AI processing, lower power use, and easier scaling of its massive AI systems. It also boosts the case for Arm in the server space—a market long dominated by Intel and AMD.
As Meta blends innovation and infrastructure, this partnership underscores how the company is doubling down on AI — not just at the software level, but all the way to its hardware foundation.
