Global smartphone shipments rose 2.6% in Q3 2025, driven by strong demand for premium and AI-powered models, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Despite economic challenges and tariff pressures, consumers continued upgrading thanks to AI features, trade-in offers, and flexible pricing. IDC said this shows the smartphone industry’s steady recovery and strong consumer appetite for innovation.
Samsung maintained its lead with 61.4 million units shipped, marking its best September-quarter performance ever. Apple followed closely with 58.6 million iPhones, seeing nearly 3% growth—its strongest three-month period on record.
IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo noted that demand for Apple’s iPhone 17 series exceeded previous generations, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 achieved record sales for foldable phones.
Overall shipments hit 322.7 million units in the quarter, a sign of recovery after years of sluggish growth. IDC projects continued momentum through year-end 2025, supported by AI-driven innovation, aggressive promotions, and growing consumer confidence.
“The smartphone industry continues its upward trajectory,” said IDC’s Nabila Popal, calling the performance “remarkable given global uncertainty.”
