Trump Says Nobel Winner Dedicated Prize “in My Honour”

Trump nominates wellness doctor Casey Means as Surgeon General, sparking debate over credentials.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado accepted her award “in his honour,” asserting he “deserved” it and saying she told him she accepted it because of his support.

Trump told reporters, “The person who got the Nobel Prize called me today … ‘I’m accepting this in your honour because you deserved it,’ a very nice thing to do.” He quipped, “I did not say then, ‘Give it to me,’ though,” earning laughs.

He added that he had “been helping her along the way,” and claimed credit for “saving millions of lives.” Machado, though, dedicated the prize to “the suffering people of Venezuela” and thanked Trump for “his decisive support of our cause.”

The White House, however, criticized the Nobel Committee’s selection, accusing it of political bias. Spokesperson Steven Cheung defended Trump’s record, saying he would continue brokering peace deals and that “there will never be anyone like him” in global diplomacy.

Trump has long argued he deserved the Nobel, citing past mediations. He reiterated that, in his view, he had “solved eight wars in nine months” — including what he described as defusing tensions between India and Pakistan by threatening tariffs.

While Trump pushed the narrative, others pushed back. India denied that U.S. mediation led to conflict resolution, and observers viewed the claim as part of Trump’s longstanding campaign for the Nobel — a campaign that has drawn skepticism.
