Benches Clear in Anaheim: Braves’ Lopez and Angels’ Soler Ejected After On-Field Brawl
  • Pitcher Reynaldo Lopez and designated hitter Jorge Soler were tossed after trading punches in the fifth inning.
  • The conflict began when a high-and-tight fastball led Soler to charge the mound following an earlier hit-by-pitch.
  • Atlanta rallied to secure a 7-2 victory and snapped their three-game losing streak despite the early exit of their starter.

The Atlanta Braves secured a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night in a game defined by a dramatic mid-game brawl. Tensions reached a boiling point at Angel Stadium during the bottom of the fifth inning. The physical confrontation resulted in the immediate ejection of two primary players from the contest.

The friction between Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez and Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler began early in the evening. Soler hit a two-run home run off his former teammate in the first inning to open the scoring. During his next appearance in the third inning, Lopez struck Soler on the hand with a pitch.

In the fifth inning, the situation escalated after Lopez threw a high, inside fastball that missed the strike zone. Soler took exception to the pitch and engaged in a lengthy staredown with the right-hander. He then began walking toward the mound before quickly charging at Lopez to initiate the fight.

Both players exchanged punches near the pitcher’s mound as members from both teams rushed onto the field. Lopez defended himself with his glove and appeared to strike Soler while still holding the baseball in his right hand. Braves manager Walt Weiss eventually tackled Soler to help separate the combatants.

Umpires spent several minutes restoring order before announcing the ejections of both Lopez and Soler. No other personnel were removed from the game following the benches-clearing incident. Lopez finished his night with seven strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings, allowing only two runs on three hits.

Following the ejections, the Atlanta offense surged to take control of the scoreboard. Ozzie Albies hit his third home run of the season to help propel the Braves’ scoring effort. Matt Olson and Eli White also contributed key hits to build a comfortable lead for the visiting team.

Reliever Tyler Kinley earned the win after replacing Lopez and recording two strikeouts in relief. The Atlanta bullpen provided strong support to seal the win and end the team’s three-game losing skid. This victory also halted a three-game winning streak for the Angels.

The league is expected to review the footage of the brawl to determine if further disciplinary action is necessary. Both teams are scheduled to conclude their series later this week. Fans and officials remain on alert for continued tension between these two non-divisional rivals.
