Amazon Unveils AI Smart Glasses “Amelia” to Revolutionize Delivery Driver Efficiency

Amazon unveils Amelia, AI smart glasses for delivery drivers, promising up to 30 minutes of efficiency gains.

Amazon has introduced a prototype of new AI-powered smart glasses called “Amelia.” These glasses are designed specifically for the company’s delivery drivers. The wearable includes a small built-in display and a camera. Drivers can press a button on a matching waistcoat to quickly take delivery photos.

Amazon is testing the glasses with hundreds of drivers across the country. The company custom-designed Amelia to improve “last mile” delivery efficiency. The glasses could save drivers up to 30 minutes per 8 to 10-hour shift. They achieve this by minimizing repetitive tasks. They also help drivers quickly locate packages inside their vehicles.

Safety is a key feature. The glasses automatically shut off when the vehicle is moving to prevent distractions. Drivers also have a hardware switch to turn off all sensors, including the camera and microphone.

In addition to Amelia, Amazon unveiled a robotic arm for its warehouses. This robot is designed to work alongside employees to sort parcels faster. The company also plans to roll out an AI system for warehouse management. This system will use real-time data to anticipate bottlenecks. Unlike competitors like Meta, Amazon’s smart glasses are currently focused only on its workers, not on general consumers.
