Asahi Orders Halt After Cyber-Attack Sparks Shortages in Japan
Japanese brewing giant Asahi has been forced to suspend orders and shipments after a cyber-attack crippled its domestic operations, sparking warnings of product shortages across the country.
Convenience store chain FamilyMart said its Famimaru bottled teas, produced by Asahi, could soon run out of stock, while Lawson and Life Cooperation also warned customers of possible shortages. Retailers are already preparing to switch to alternative products to limit the disruption.
Asahi, best known for its Super Dry beer and global brands like Peroni and Pilsner Urquell, said there was no evidence of leaked customer data but admitted there was currently no timeline for recovery. Japan accounts for half of the company’s sales, heightening concerns over the economic impact of the attack.
