Victory for NHS Staff: Over 1,500 East Yorkshire Workers Win Four Years’ Back Pay in Major Pay Deal
Over 1,500 hospital workers just secured a major pay victory. These workers are based in East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire. The new deal grants them four years of back pay. It also moves them to a permanent higher pay grade.
The trade union Unison confirmed the agreement with the NHS Humber Health Partnership. The deal covers Healthcare Assistants (HCAs). For years, HCAs performed higher-level tasks. These duties include taking blood and inserting cannulas. This work should have been paid at a better rate.
The NHS Partnership agreed to the pay upgrade. The back pay is dated back to April 2021. This payment finally compensates workers for their extra duties. The deal even includes former employees. This is a huge success for Unison’s ‘Pay Fair for Patient Care’ campaign. The NHS is recognizing its valuable frontline staff for their essential work.
