A top researcher from Chinese AI company DeepSeek shared a pessimistic outlook on AI’s future impact. Chen Deli spoke at the government-organized World Internet Conference. This was one of the firm’s first public appearances in almost a year. DeepSeek is famous for releasing a powerful, low-cost AI model.
Chen praised the technology. He said he is “extremely positive about the technology.” However, he feels negative about its societal impact. He warned that AI could take over many jobs within the next 5 to 10 years. This technology is becoming good enough to perform human work.
He stated that society faces a “massive challenge” in the next decade or two. During this time, AI could automate most remaining human work. Chen urged technology companies to take the role of a “defender.” He stressed that AI firms must understand these employment risks. The Chinese government sees DeepSeek as a symbol of its tech progress.
