TotalEnergies Signs 10-Year Clean Power Deal in Spain With Data-Centre Operator
TotalEnergies has struck a 10-year deal to supply clean power in Spain to a major data-centre operator, marking a significant push into renewables for the energy giant. ([turn0search0]turn0search0)
Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will provide around 300 megawatts of solar and wind energy to support the data-centre business. The deal is a part of the company’s goal to ramp up its renewable energy sales and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Spain’s clean-power market is expanding quickly, favored by abundant sunshine, strong wind resources and a government push to use power domestically to cut imports. TotalEnergies expects such long-term contracts will strengthen its foothold in Europe’s growing green-energy sector.
The purchase-power-agreement (PPA) model used in this deal allows the data-centre operator to lock in renewable energy at predictable prices for the next decade while supporting emissions reductions. For TotalEnergies, it secures a steady-state customer in a high-growth sector — especially as companies rush to decarbonize their infrastructure.
Industry analysts say the agreement signals more of this kind of long-term green-energy sourcing will become common as big tech shifts into data-heavy operations and demands large, clean-power volumes.
