Nexperia Welcomes Chip Export Lift-Ban Amid U.S.–China Deal

Dutch seizes Chinese chipmaker Nexperia to safeguard tech security and national interests.

Nexperia BV, a Dutch chipmaker caught between Europe and China, said it welcomed recent announcements by the U.S. Government and the Chinese Government that remove barriers preventing it from shipping key semiconductor parts.

The company made this statement Sunday from its Nijmegen headquarters. It declined to comment on remarks by its Chinese unit, which said it will accelerate efforts to operate independently.

Nexperia emphasised its focus is now on ensuring “stable supply” for its customers — a crucial point for automakers that rely on the firm’s chips for braking systems, sensors and other parts.

The backdrop: in late October the Dutch Government used new national-security powers to take control of Nexperia over concerns about its Chinese owner shifting technology abroad.

Around 70 % of Nexperia-made chips are packaged in China before global shipment. Export blocks from Beijing had threatened auto-industry production around the world.

While the latest announcements offer relief, the broader tech and geopolitics issues remain. Dutch officials say talks continue with the U.S., China and the industry to find a long-term path forward.
