The Florentin has officially opened its doors, marking the return of one of Frankfurt’s most beloved luxury landmarks. Situated in the leafy Sachsenhausen neighborhood south of the Main River, the hotel occupies the site of the former Villa Kennedy, which closed in 2022. Under the stewardship of the Althoff Collection and as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the property has undergone a complete transformation that emphasizes “blooming” and renewal—a theme reflected in its new name, derived from the Latin word for flourishing.
The heart of the hotel remains the historic Villa Speyer, built in 1901 for a prominent banking family. This Gothic and Renaissance-style mansion now serves as the “Villa” section of the hotel, housing public event spaces and nine exclusive signature suites. These top-tier accommodations are designed to be entirely unique; for example, the “Composer” suite features an in-room piano to celebrate the city’s musical heritage. The largest of these is the 3,450-square-foot Royal Suite, which offers three bedrooms, a private sauna, and a dedicated workout room.
Surrounding the original villa are newer wings built to harmonize with the historic facade. These extensions contain the majority of the 147 accommodations, which are categorized into 17 different types to suit both business and leisure travelers. The design language throughout the property focuses on natural materials, including stone, wood, and stucco, creating a light-filled atmosphere of understated elegance. Many rooms offer views of the central Garden Courtyard, a lush green space that serves as the hotel’s social center.
Dining at The Florentin is designed to be a destination in itself. “The Garden” restaurant provides an indoor-outdoor Mediterranean experience where guests can dine among the courtyard’s greenery. For a more avant-garde experience, “the dune” offers a desert-tent-inspired setting with a focus on eclectic combinations and a high-end tasting menu. The hotel also features a dedicated cigar lounge and the Florentin Bar, which serves artisanal coffee by day and handcrafted cocktails by night.
Wellness is a primary focus for the property, with a spa that includes a 14-meter heated indoor pool, three different saunas, and a modern fitness center equipped by TechnoGym. The spa treatments are described as scientifically based therapies, further establishing the hotel as a place for both relaxation and inspiration. Its location adds to the leisure appeal, sitting just a ten-minute walk from Frankfurt’s “Museum Sufer,” an embankment lined with world-class cultural institutions like the Städel Museum.
While Frankfurt is traditionally viewed as a business-centric financial hub, The Florentin’s leadership aims to capture a larger share of the luxury leisure market. By offering a resort-like atmosphere within an urban environment, the hotel positions itself as an ideal starting point for travelers exploring Germany or those seeking a weekend getaway centered on art and fine dining.
