Apple Hits the Brakes: iPhone Air Successor Delayed Amid Reports of ‘Weaker Than Anticipated’ Sales

Historic Milestone: Apple Smashes $4 Trillion Market Value as New iPhone Models Fuel Sales Resurgence

Apple is delaying the next version of its iPhone Air. The successor, initially planned for late 2026, will not be released on time. This decision comes after the first iPhone Air model sold poorly.

The iPhone Air launched in 2025. Apple designed it to be a thinner, lighter flagship phone. This slim design required trade-offs, however. The first model had a smaller battery and fewer advanced camera features. Analysts agree that demand for the iPhone Air was weaker than expected.

Production has already seen sharp cuts. For example, one key assembler stopped all iPhone Air production in October. Another expects to halt production by the end of November. This contrasts with high production for other popular models, like the iPhone 17 Pro.

The device also faces challenges in key markets. In China, the iPhone Air only supports eSIM connectivity. It lacks a physical SIM tray. This limited connectivity may have hurt sales there. The exact length of the delay remains unclear.
