Imperial College Unveils Plans for AI Research Tower in West London

Imperial College plans AI research tower in West London with labs and public spaces by 2029.

Imperial College London has shared plans for a new 12-storey academic building in west London dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) and data science.

The proposed site is part of the university’s White City campus, a growing hub for research and innovation. Imperial says the project will unite computer scientists, mathematicians, and business experts to advance the development of AI and machine learning.

The building will feature modern laboratories, research offices, cafés, and exhibition spaces. The ground and first floors will be open to students, staff, and local residents, helping to connect the university with the surrounding community.

A public consultation is now underway and will run until 26 October. The university plans to submit a formal planning application to Hammersmith and Fulham Council later this year. Outline planning approval for the site was first granted in 2019, clearing the way for additional developments such as homes, hotels, and research centers.

If the proposal moves forward, construction is expected to begin in mid-2026 and finish by 2029. Imperial says the building will strengthen its role as a global leader in science and technology research.

Founded in 1907, Imperial College remains one of the world’s top universities in STEM and business, with its main campus based in South Kensington.
