The Detroit Pistons secured a decisive 130-117 road victory against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Jalen Duren delivered a masterful performance to power the Pistons’ offense throughout the contest. The young center established a new career high with 36 points while adding 12 rebounds.
Detroit faced immediate adversity when star playmaker Cade Cunningham exited the game early. Cunningham played only six minutes before leaving the court due to back spasms. He did not return to the match following his departure in the opening quarter.
Despite losing their primary facilitator, the Pistons maintained their composure on the offensive end. The team found scoring contributions from several key rotation players to fill the void. Daniss Jenkins provided a significant spark by contributing 15 points to the winning total.
The Washington Wizards struggled to find defensive answers for Detroit’s physical interior presence. This result marks the 13th straight loss for the struggling Washington franchise. They have not tasted victory since their previous encounter with Detroit in early February.
Rookie guard Bub Carrington provided the brightest moment for the home supporters in Washington. Carrington scored 21 of his season-high 30 points during a frantic fourth-quarter rally. He also matched his season best by connecting on six three-pointers during the game.
Detroit utilized efficient shooting from both the perimeter and the paint to stay ahead. The team finished the night shooting over 51 percent from the field as a collective. They also converted 11 of their 27 attempts from beyond the three-point arc.
Tobias Harris played a steadying role for the Pistons by adding 12 points and veteran leadership. Ronald Holland II also reached double figures with 11 points in the winning effort. These contributions helped Detroit win for the fourth time in five games.
Washington managed to take an early nine-point lead before Detroit’s second unit responded. A strong 15-3 run in the second quarter gave the Pistons a lead they would not relinquish. The Wizards remained within striking distance until the final minutes of the match.
Will Riley and Justin Champagnie added 21 and 18 points respectively for the Wizards. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome Detroit’s dominant rebounding and transition play. The Pistons outmuscled Washington in the paint for most of the night.
Both teams will remain in the nation’s capital for a quick rematch on Thursday evening. Washington will look to break their losing skid in front of their home fans. Detroit aims to continue its positive momentum while monitoring the health of Cunningham.
