Greece Nabs Creator of VenomRAT, Dismantling Global Cybercrime Network

Greek police recently arrested a key cybercrime suspect. This arrest was part of “Operation Endgame,” a major global crackdown led by Europol. The arrested man, a 38-year-old Albanian national, is allegedly the creator of VenomRAT. This is a powerful type of malicious software. He was arrested in Athens on November 3rd. France had issued a European arrest warrant for him.

Operation Endgame’s latest phase targeted international cybercrime tools. These tools included the Rhadamanthys infostealer, the VenomRAT Remote Access Trojan (RAT), and the Elysium botnet. The authorities successfully dismantled or disrupted 1,025 servers worldwide. They also seized 20 domains.

This malware infrastructure had infected hundreds of thousands of computers. It stole millions of private credentials. Many victims did not even realize their systems were compromised. Europol confirmed the main suspect had access to over 100,000 victim cryptocurrency wallets.

The potential losses amount to millions of euros. The VenomRAT was specifically designed to steal data by recording keystrokes and hacking crypto wallets. This successful operation involved law enforcement from over ten countries, including the U.S.
