AI Monopoly Fight: Judge Forces Apple and OpenAI to Face Elon Musk’s Antitrust Lawsuit

A US federal judge ruled against Apple and OpenAI this week. The companies tried to dismiss a major antitrust lawsuit. Elon Musk’s companies, X Corp and xAI, filed the lawsuit in Texas. The judge said the case must move forward for now. This ruling gives a preliminary victory to the billionaire entrepreneur.

X Corp accuses Apple and OpenAI of a conspiracy. The suit claims they want to monopolize the AI and smartphone markets. Specifically, X alleges Apple illegally favors ChatGPT. Apple integrated the chatbot into its new AI features. This partnership, X argues, wrongly shuts out rival AI services. This includes xAI’s own Grok chatbot. X Corp is seeking billions of dollars in damages.

Both Apple and OpenAI reject the allegations. Apple claims its deal with OpenAI is not exclusive. It plans to work with other AI companies soon. OpenAI called the lawsuit consistent with a pattern of harassment from Mr. Musk. However, both tech giants must now continue to fight the case in court.
