Xbox Cloud Gaming to Go Free With Ads in Upcoming Test

Microsoft is preparing to launch a free, ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, with the feature currently being tested internally by company employees.

According to sources, players will see two minutes of pre-roll ads before their game begins, and sessions may be limited to one hour, with a cap of five hours free per month. The service will include streaming games users already own, plus titles available through “Free Play Days” and retro games from Xbox’s back catalog.

The ad-supported cloud option will be available across PC, consoles, handheld devices, and the web. Microsoft plans to roll out a public beta test before launching it widely.
