Vodafone Restores UK Network After Major Outage Hits Over 130,000 Customers
Vodafone has fully restored its services after a major outage left thousands of customers across the UK without internet access on Monday.
More than 130,000 users reported issues on Downdetector, with complaints about broadband and mobile data going offline. The company confirmed the problem was caused by a non-malicious software issue linked to one of its vendor partners and assured that the network has now recovered.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this caused our customers,” Vodafone said in a statement on Tuesday.
Experts said the outage highlights the growing need for digital resilience among telecom providers. Daniel Card from the Chartered Institute for IT said that being able to diagnose and fix such problems quickly is essential to maintaining public trust.
Vodafone — which serves 18 million UK customers, including nearly 700,000 broadband users — said the disruption affected broadband, 4G, and 5G services “for a short time.”
According to Cloudflare Radar, Vodafone’s traffic “dropped to zero,” meaning the network briefly disappeared from the internet. Customers also faced difficulties reaching the company’s website or customer service lines.
Many users took to social media to share their frustration, with some saying the outage disrupted their work. Business leaders warned Vodafone could face compensation claims for productivity losses.
