Trump and Xi Jin ping Ink US-China Trade Truce at APEC Summit

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met on 30 October in Busan during the APEC 2025 Summit to revive trade negotiations between the U.S. and China.

They agreed to cut U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods from 57% to 47% in exchange for China resuming U.S. soybean purchases and maintaining rare-earth exports for at least a year.

While the move brought relief to markets that were worried about a full-blown trade war, key issues—such as technology controls and Taiwan policy—remain unresolved.

Analysts say the deal offers a short-term break in tensions, but a lasting agreement depends on both sides keeping promises and building trust.
