Toyota Posts Fourth Straight Month of Output Growth Fuelled by US Hybrid Surge
Toyota Motor Corporation reported a global production rise of 11% in September, reaching 918,146 vehicles, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth.
The growth was propelled by strong U.S. demand—production in the U.S. jumped 29% thanks to high interest in hybrid models and recovery from last year’s production pause.
In Japan output rose 9%, and in China it increased 16%.
Global vehicle sales were up 3% to 879,314 units in September, extending a nine-month string of growth. U.S. sales climbed 14%, offsetting small declines in China (–1%) and Japan (–5%).
For the first nine months of this year, Toyota’s cumulative sales hit 7.8 million vehicles, a 5% increase versus the same period last year.
Analysts say Toyota’s focus on hybrids—and its recovery from past production disruptions—helped it gain market share. While the U.S. remains its strongest market, performance in Asia proves the brand’s global strength.
