Intel CEO Takes Direct Control of AI Strategy After Top Exec Jumps to OpenAI

Intel announced a major leadership change this week. CEO Lip-Bu Tan will now directly lead the company’s crucial AI efforts. This action follows the swift departure of a top executive. Intel’s Chief Technology and AI Officer, Sachin Katti, has left the chipmaker. Katti is now joining ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

Mr. Tan will personally oversee the AI and Advanced Technologies Groups. This move highlights AI’s vital role in Intel’s future plans. The company stated that AI is a top strategic priority. It remains focused on its technology roadmap for new AI products.

Katti joined OpenAI to help design its complex computing infrastructure. This infrastructure will power future Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) research. Executive departures like this complicate Intel’s aggressive turnaround plan. The chip giant needs to catch up quickly in the competitive AI chip market. Intel must execute its AI strategy to compete with rivals like Nvidia.
