Amazon Resolves AWS Outage Affecting Global Services

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Pledges $5 Billion Investment in South Korea by 2031

Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a significant outage on October 20, 2025, disrupting numerous online platforms and applications worldwide. The issue primarily affected the US-EAST-1 data center in Northern Virginia, a region that had been associated with similar disruptions in the past.

The outage was traced to a malfunction in the network health monitoring system of AWS’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). This malfunction impacted the Domain Name System (DNS), hindering access to essential services like DynamoDB.

As a result, many platforms, including Reddit, Snapchat, Venmo, Zoom, and Fortnite, faced service interruptions. Users reported challenges with everyday tasks, such as making payments and modifying travel plans.

By the afternoon, AWS reported that most services had returned to normal operations. However, some users still experienced delays in message processing.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of the global digital infrastructure and the risks associated with over-reliance on a limited number of cloud service providers. Experts emphasize the need for businesses to enhance fault tolerance and avoid single points of failure to minimize the impact of future outages.
